• There are two additional menu options to support this.
• First of all under menu Master data - wine/Internet search configuration you

appreciate if you use the link above should you sign up with them) and the
password and then you can obtain an authentication key by clicking the
appropriate button.
• Second under the menu Tools/Obtain current value from GWS is the dialog
which allows you to search the Global Wine Stocks database to find their
reference number for your wine and for wines which already have a GWS
reference you can obtain the current value.

Release 2.0.126.9 - November 2006
Release 2.0 is the first really major upgrade of The Wine Cellar Book. This upgrade brings
the following four new features which we are confident will provide our users with much
greater functionality.
1. Recipe Management
2. Wine Pairing
3. Wine Rack Design and Management
4. Import/Export Facility
Instead of just adding functionality to pair wines with food categories we thought that
creating a recipe book application would bring much more value for our users - hopefully
most of you will agree.
The concept of “wine and food pairing” relies heavily on the new Recipe Book feature and
the definition of Wine Families (as defined by the French authority “Larousse des vins”).
For those who do not have the time or desire to set up recipes, it is still possible to pair
wines with food by simply associating a wine family with an ingredient or group of
ingredients. Incidentally, version 2.0 comes with over 600 pre-defined ingredients.
Description of New Features and Changes
• Help
• The online help has been totally rewritten. It is now more of a “how to” type of
manual which better complements the help made available with ToolTips and
ContextHelp.
• We are also planning to issue this new manual in German and French in the future
(during 2007).
• Toolbar - wines
• Wine rack
• This is a new button to the left of the Chart button which allows you to visualize
your wine racks in a graphical format - see below.
• Recipe book
• This is a new button to the far right of the toolbar giving access to the recipe
book function.
• Consumption Event
• We moved the “Maintain Consumption Event” to the right of “Delete wine”, to
access the “Create Consumption Event” dialog use this button.
• Consumption Batch
• We moved the “Maintain Consumption Batch” to the right of “Maintain
Consumption Event”, to access the “Create Consumption Batch” dialog use this
button.
• Recipe book
• The is one of the major enhancements for this version, the following are just some
of the highlights.
• Ingredients
• The system comes with many ingredients predefined in all three languages,
currently over 600 items.
• The ingredients are categorized into groups, facilitating the linking of these
groups to particular wine families.
• The ingredient groups are further categorized into main groups to facilitate
searching.
• Recipe
• Ingredients, an unlimited number of ingredients can be defined per recipe.
• Recipe, an unlimited number of recipes can be included into a recipe
(particularly useful for base recipes such as sauces etc.).
• You may attach an unlimited number of images to a particular recipe.
• It allows you to record detailed cooking instructions.
• It allows you to record tips and tricks and which utensils are necessary for a
particular recipe.
• Ingredient import from the clipboard - see online help.
• vinoXML.org
• The import/export facility to a standard format (vinoXML) is the other major
enhancement included in this release. We have in late 2005 initiated the discussion
and worked with other wine cellar book software authors to create a definition for a
common data exchange standard. The standard is available free of charge on
www.vinoxml.org to any interested parties and we hope that over time sites
providing information on wines will use this standard.
• Export wines to “.vinoXML” files
• Under the new Tools menu there is an option to export wine information,
selecting the option will bring up a dialog on which you can select which wine
you want to export. The export files will be saved to the following folder:
“C:\TheWineCellarBook\xmlexport”.
• Import wine information from “.vinoXML” files
• If you receive, or download “.vinoXML” files you should store them in
“C:\TheWineCellarBook\xmlimport” and use the Import option on the new
Tools menu, a dialog will open showing you all the files available for import,
when you select a file by clicking on it the system will show the wine name,
vintage etc of the selected wine and will try to find similar wines already in your
cellar. If similar wines are found in your cellar you can import just the new
vintage and/or bottle information or you can import it as a new wine.
• Wine rack design
• This dialog can be accessed from the menu Master data - Wine. It allows you to
define/configure the wine racks you have in your cellar(s).
• There are two types of racks supported at this time, which should allow you to
define just about any kind of rack configuration.
• Standard rack layout
• You would use this for racks (e.g. the often seen metal racks) which store a
bottle per slot. The one we have has 15 rows and 12 columns, but they come
in all kind of sizes and also exist in wood and other materials - this type of
rack can easily be defined - see online help for details.
• Custom rack layout
• A custom layout is anything which can NOT be done using the standard rack
layout. It allows you to define bins and their capacity and then lay them out
with graphical shapes. In our cellar we would use this to define the rack
which provides for storing anything from 6 to 36 bottles per bin and the
bottles are stored neck to neck - again see the online help for details.
• Consumption event dialog
• A new tab has been added which allows you to define the menu served during the
event.
• Menu items are free format, but you can assign an ingredient or recipe to each - in
the future this will allow to generate a shopping list.
• A wine can be assigned to each menu item
• If you want to use this for planning events, just enter the guests and the menu and
update the event later on with the consumption information.
• Beverage list
• Additional optional columns have been added (Supplier name, Producer name and
Average score), all of them need to be activated through the menu Master
Data/Configuration listctrl. Thanks to J. Novak for suggesting these changes.
• Wine search
• Bar code search field has been added
• Country search field has been added
• Wine details tab
• Wine Family
• Added a “Wine family” combobox which allows for the definition of the
particularity of a wine and is used to link wines with food items.
• It allows you to easily link a particular wine families to a particular ingredient,
to a particular ingredient group and/or to recipes.
• Variety
• Added a “Variety” text field which is similar to the “Additional name” field in
that it allows you to define more detailed information about a particular wine. It
should only be used to enter grape variety names (e.g. for Penfolds Merlot you
would enter Merlot into this field), however you will probably still want to
define the grape variety in the cuvée to define the percentage and for the search
by grape variety.
• Tree list of vintage/bottle
• Entries are now sorted in ascending order of the vintage
• Entries with zero quantity on hand will NOT be shown. If all bottle sizes of a
certain vintage are ALL at zero quantity on hand the vintage will NOT be shown,
unless the check box “Incl. Zero” for wine search has been checked..
• Added additional drink types for better mapping with the new vinoXML
import/export facility.
• Vintages/Bottles tab
• Tree list of vintage/bottle
• Entries are now sorted in ascending order of the vintage
• Entries with zero quantity on hand will NOT be shown. If all bottles sizes of a
certain vintage are ALL at zero quantity on hand the vintage will NOT be shown,
unless the check box “Incl. Zero” for wine search has been checked.
• Bar code
• Allows to record a bar code (supports the entry via a barcode scanner or by hand
of any barcode up to 22 characters long). It can also be used to record any other
type of unique identification code for a particular bottle size.
• Minimum quantity on hand
• Allows the recording of the min. quantity on hand which is very useful for a
suggested purchase report.
• Serving temperature
• Allows for the definition of the ideal serving temperature
• Decanting time
• Allows for the definition of the recommended decanting time, e.g 1.5 for one
and a half hour.
• Total acidity
• Change the label to Acidity g/L, I believe this is the more often used way to
define the Total Acidity - instead of in %.
• Tastings and Ratings tab
• Both of these will now show all Tastings or Ratings for a selected vintage,
regardless of bottle size and/or cellar location..
• However creating a Tasting or a Rating record can only be done when a bottle size
is selected.
• A new tasting method has been added “100 - Wein.Plus.com”, you can find details
on how they taste and rate wines on the page listed below.
http://www.wein-plus.com/wineguide/bewert.htm
• Dialog Maintain Consumption Event
• Events are sorted by event date instead of description. You can sort them by the
other columns by clicking on the appropriate column header.
• Dialog Consumption Event
• The layout of the screen has been modified and a notebook providing two tabs, see
below.
• Consumption details tab
• Added quantity on hand as a display only field. When creating a new
consumption entry it shows the quantity on hand in the cellar, after saving this
entry it will show the quantity on hand in the cellar taking this entry into
account.
• Quantity is now limited to the quantity on hand before this consumption was
entered.
• The reason and consumption date is now shown, it defaults to the entries you
made on the top of the screen (event reason and date).
• Menu details tab
• This allows you to define the menu served at this particular event and which
wines were served with which menu item (course).
• Consumptions tab
• A new button allows you to transfer from this cellar to another cellar.
• You could use this to manage your “Primeur” purchases, e.g. create a cellar
called “Primeur” and record the wine in that cellar when you order it, when it
gets delivered you transfer it using this new function to the cellar where you
store it.
• The transfer will create a consumption entry in the cellar you transfer from and a
purchase entry in the cellar you transfer to. If the same vintage/bottle size exists
in the transfer to cellar it will be used, otherwise a new entry will automatically
be created.
• The quantity to transfer is limited to the quantity on hand.
• Dialog preferences
• Allows for the definition of a default reason code for the cellar transfer (see above)
• Allows for the definition of a backup interval which defaults to 14 days. If you have
not done a backup for more than 14 days (or whatever number of days you set this
to) a reminder prompt will be shown when you startup The Wine Cellar Book.
• Allows for the definition of defaults for measures and ingredients, used if a
corresponding item is not found during the new ingredient import from the
clipboard.
• Allows the user to specify which tasting system to use for average score calculation
on the beverage list.
• Dialog assign bottle tags to wines on hand
• If you have been using The Wine Cellar Book for some time, and subsequently
decide to use the bottle tag function you can use this tool (under the menu Tools) to
assign bottle tags based on the quantity on hand.
• Technical changes
• Report Manager - version 2.6e
• This version allows for the translation of all the report prompts into the
supported languages.
• The way reports are accessed has also changed, this means that there is no DOS
window shown when running reports from within The Wine Cellar Book.
• If you are creating custom reports you need to upgrade to this version.
• wxPython - version 2.6.3.3
• Current stable release of the GUI library.
• Firebird SQL
• Version 2.0 of the SQL database engine
• OdbcFb32.dll - ODBC driver for Firebird, version 2.0.142 Beta
• This is a new version of what previously was called OdbcJdbc.dll.
• Much better support for e.g. MsAccess.
• Easier install/use with 3rd party packages such as OpenOffice, MsAccess etc by
using the Firebird variable - see online help.
